Earlier this week I went out on a run and started out a little too fast. Instead of slowing down, I ended up keeping the same pace throughout the run, and needless to say it wasnt one of my best runs.
Last winter, before I really messed my groin up, I was running a good bit slower than what I could have comfortably handled on almost all of my runs. I would occasionally pick it up near the end, but the runs would be very very relaxed.
I am starting to make a point to replicate what I did during the previous winter because it had a number of positive effects on my training. The most important thing was that it kept me relatively healthy. The other big thing was that it provided with a lot of fire for when I really needed to go after things. By the time for my first real workout, which was a 5 mile tempo in 26:30, I was ready to go after things. But then of course the race I ran in early January caught up to me, and recovering from harder runs would take me a week.
So the plan for now, is to stay in control during my runs until I feel as if I am ready to start working out. And who knows when that will be?
